Janet Vaughan Robertson

Janet Vaughan Robertson’s practices focuses on the public finance arena and she is a highly respected bond counsel, underwriter counsel, credit bank counsel, borrower counsel, issuer counsel and trustee counsel in connection with multi-million dollar municipal and conduit bond issues for school districts, charter schools, private schools and local government.

Ms. Robertson’s bond counsel and public finance law practice serves independent school districts, public charter schools, private schools, community colleges, cities, counties, health care facilities, continuous care retirement communities, cultural facilities, industrial development facilities, housing developments and other issuers in Texas and nationwide.

Education, Honors, Admissions & Affiliations

Ms. Robertson attended the University of Texas at Austin and received her B.J. magna cum laude. She attended University of Houston Law Center where she received her Juris Doctor. While in law school, Ms. Robertson served as Chief Research Editor for the Houston Law Review. She became a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi while at the University of Texas at Austin and of the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi while at University of Houston. She was admitted to the Texas bar in 1989.

A former high school English and journalism teacher, Ms. Robertson has a passion for improving her community and helping to provide high-quality education options for all students. Her commitment to education is exemplified in her work with the Texas Charter School Association and the Texas Education Agency as a trusted expert advisor on the development of rules governing charter school operations, including access to the Permanent School Fund (PSF), and other school finance related legislative initiatives.

Ms. Robertson is a graduate of Leadership Houston Class of XXXI and past Co-chair of its Education Day Committee. She is also a member of the Texas chapter of Women in Public Finance, the Alliance of Public Charter School Attorneys, National Association of Bond Lawyers, Houston Bar Association, Texas Bar Foundation and Texas Women Lawyers.
