Associate Attorney
Arlene R. Smith joined Schulman, Lopez, Hoffer & Adelstein, LLP in 2025. Her practice includes business and real estate transactions, contract disputes, lien-related matters, and civil and commercial litigation. Ms. Smith previously worked as an associate attorney where she focused on lien-related matters, contract disputes, construction litigation, and estate planning. She brings her clients a business-informed perspective and a detail-oriented approach, shaped by her dual J.D./M.B.A. education.
During law school, Ms. Smith served as a research assistant to Professor David Schlueter, contributing to drafting the current edition of the Texas Rules of Evidence Manual, and as a teaching assistant in the Consumer Protection Clinic, where she supported housing and eviction defense matters. She also clerked with private firms in San Antonio, interned for the Honorable Israel Ramon Jr. of the 430th District Court in Hidalgo County, and worked in the Office of Chairman Bryan Daniel at the Texas Workforce Commission.
Education & Honors
Ms. Smith earned her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2024, supported by a Dean’s Scholarship. She also received her M.B.A. from the St. Mary’s University Greehey School of Business in 2023 and her B.A. in Economics with a Government minor from the University of Texas at Austin in 2020. Ms. Smith twice attended the St. Mary’s Institute on World Legal Problems at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where she studied international law in 2022 and 2023.
She was recognized among Outstanding Women in Law by Scene in SA magazine in Spring 2025.
