Darren McHugh joined the Firm in summer 2022. Mr. McHugh was most recently a tax partner for a large firm where he was responsible for the federal tax law analysis of municipal debt issuances, with a particular emphasis on economic development projects, municipal utility districts, 501(c)(3) borrowers, and tax controversy matters (IRS audits and closing agreement requests). He advised 501(c)(3) organizations with respect to general corporate matters, formation of subsidiary entities, conflicts of interest and other policy matters, tax compliance, and excise tax matters.
Mr. McHugh has also assisted in structuring lease financings and assisting issuers and conduit borrowers with post-issuance compliance matters. He has served as special tax counsel to issuers, conduit borrowers and other law firms in tax and public finance engagements.
